The mission of the International Christian University Graduate School is founded on a commitment to the three principles of academics, Christian ideals and internationalism. Building on these principles and aiming to develop students through theory and practice in both education and research, the Graduate School opened with a Master’s program in Education in 1957. In 1963, a Master’s program in Public Administration was established, followed by a Master’s course in the Division of Comparative Culture in 1976, and a Master’s program in the Division of Natural Sciences in 1987.

Today, Japanese graduate schools are involved in the implementation of various systematic reforms that are expected to offer an appealing education that looks towards the increasingly globalized society. The superlative quality of graduate programs could be achieved by emphasizing validity across international cultures, and by creating an ever higher sense of trust in graduate education.

ICU’s new Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, which integrated the previous four divisions (Division of Education, Public Administration, Comparative Culture and Natural Sciences) started offering its program from April 2010. By bringing together the current divisions, it is possible to offer students a multifaceted education and highly flexible programs in which to conduct international education and research. With a foundation in a truly bilingual environment, the ICU Graduate School carries out its role as a bridge between Japan and the international community. We aim to offer a graduate education that nurtures highly skilled professionals with specialized leadership abilities.

国際基督教大学大学院は、本学の三つの使命－学問への使命、キリスト教への使命、国際性への使命－に基づき学部で養われた学術知識の上に、理論及び応用の 教育・研究両面における発展を目的として1957年に教育学研究科を設置し、続いて1963年に行政学研究科、1976年に比較文化研究科、1987年に 理学研究科を開設しました。 そして今、日本の大学院を取り巻く状況は、種々の制度的改革の渦中にあり、大学院教育の実質化、国際的な通用性、信頼性の向上を通じ、グローバル化した国 際社会に向けて、魅力ある大学院教育を実現することが求められています。 本学大学院は、2010年4月から、これまでの4研究科（教育学研究科、行政学研究科、比較文化研究科、理学研究科）を統合し、「アーツ・サイエンス研究科」として生まれ変わりました。1研究科になることにより複合的な履修が可能となり、学際的教育・研究を遂行する上で柔軟性の高いプログラムが実現されます。日本語と英語のバイリンガル教育を基礎に、世界と日本を結ぶ架け橋としての役割を担う、高い専門性を備えた指導的人材を育成する大学院教育の実践を目 指します。
